Matthew Sanders is a London-based film and TV publicity consultant who specialises in coordinating international press campaigns, festivals and junkets. Matthew has over twenty five years’ experience of creating effective strategies to achieve successful press coverage, tailored to each film’s unique requirements. His expertise includes:

  • Strong knowledge of European festivals to help filmmakers navigate their way to a successful project launch 

  • Building excellent relationships with filmmakers, international distributors, journalists and festival organisers

  • Generating significant festival buzz to ensure that new films stand out in a crowded field

  • Creating polished press junkets to ensure high quality interviews for distributors’ campaigns

  • Assembling an expert team to manage all clients' needs, including festival logistics, junket production crews and photography

Since becoming a freelance consultant in 2010 he has worked in partnership with Charles McDonald and Manlin Sterner as International Rescue at each of the major European film festivals, Cannes, Venice and Berlin:

Matthew began his career in the London office of Miramax Films where he worked in International Publicity from 1995 to 2000. Films worked on during his time at Miramax include Anthony Minghella’s THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY and THE ENGLISH PATIENT, Gus Van Sant’s GOOD WILL HUNTING, Jane Campion’s HOLY SMOKE, Roberto Benigni’s LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, Lasse Hallstrom’s THE CIDER HOUSE RULES, Julian Schnabel’s BASQUIAT, John Madden’s MRS BROWN, Robert Rodriguez’s’ THE FACULTY and Wes Craven’s SCREAM TRILOGY.

 

Matthew joined publicity agency McDonald & Rutter (M&R) in 2001 and became Senior Account Director when the company was incorporated into Premier PR in 2006. At M&R and Premier he handled the international publicity on a wide range of films including Walter Salles’ THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES, Sofia Coppola’s LOST IN TRANSLATION, Davis Guggenheim’s AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, Fernando Meirelles’ THE CONSTANT GARDENER and BLINDNESS, Robert Altman’s GOSFORD PARK, Michel Gondry’s BE KIND REWIND and Anthony Minghella’s COLD MOUNTAIN.

 

Alongside his publicity work, Matthew delivers interactive art history workshops, mainly for the educational charity he runs, Magic Lantern.
